While hundreds of men from more than 300 communities in New Mexico fought to defend the Philippines during WWII, Grant County has the richest history of Bataan veterans of anywhere in America. Of the 110 prisoners of war in the Bataan Death March who hailed from Grant County, just 55 survived. A lot of loved ones from Grant County were lost, affecting a lot of families in the area.

To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Bataan, and subsequent Bataan Death March, a group of veterans, and families of survivors and those who died, are organizing a memorial event to be held on April 9th, 2022. The organizers are planning to make this the most important, memorable, and happy rededication ceremony that has ever taken place in Grant County, and they want you to join them.
