Grant County Community Foundation

Capacity Building Conference for Nonprofits, 21-22 September 2023

The Grant County Community Foundation is proud to announce that it is hosting a 2-day Capacity Building Conference for area nonprofits - including their staff members, boards of directors, and volunteers - on Thursday and Friday, September 21 and 22, 2023. The conference agenda will feature a series of 90-minute workshops, including nonprofit finance and accounting, board best practices, volunteer management, self-care for nonprofit leaders, communications and media, marketing, social media, sustainable development, a presentation by the Founder of Grantstation on developing a funding research process, and a grantwriting Q&A panel.

These last few years have stretched nonprofits to their limits and, while many are back up and running, they are still lacking critical organizational support. Earlier this year, the Grant County Community Foundation offered free workshops on grant writing and strategic planning, both of which were well attended and received excellent feedback from attendees.

Emboldened by that success – and keeping in mind that nonprofits need support to do the amazing work that makes our area such a wonderful place to live, work and play – the Community Foundation has developed a series of capacity building workshops for nonprofits. The Community Foundation is able to host this 2-day conference thanks to the generosity of the Jane Elise Hendricks Charitable Trust, the McCune Foundation, and the Town of Silver City. The Grant Writing Q&A panel on the final afternoon will include a representative from the McCune Foundation. This will provide attendees with a great opportunity to meet a New Mexico funder with a commitment to serving rural New Mexico and with whom the Community Foundation has a strong relationship.

Attendees will be treated to coffee and pastries and a light lunch each of the two days. The conference will end with a celebratory party on Friday evening hosted at the Silver City Museum. As well as providing expert advice and training, the conference will be a great opportunity to meet and network with others working in the nonprofit world.

Workshops are open to all nonprofit representatives who wish to attend. Those interested should register with the Grant County Community Foundation to reserve their space. While all the workshops are free, the Community Foundation is requesting a small $25 registration fee for each attendee. If you are interested in attending, or have questions about the event, please contact Bernadette Smyth at bernadette@grantcountycommunityfoundation.org or phone 575.956.6095. But hurry, the sessions are already beginning to fill up!
